DIY Dining Table to Look Like A Vintage Treasure

So this project has been a long time coming. TBH I had been putting if off because of how tedious it was going to be. Let's face it stripping and sanding isn't always fun especially on a big furniture piece like this one.

This table had beautiful bones and got it for a steal on FBMP.

The only thing wrong with the current condition of the dining table when purchased from FBMP was that it was too shiny/glossy. There were some spots on the table top also that fading from wear and tear.

So basically I didn't want the formality of the table. I wanted this table to feel a little more rustic, vintage if you will. I wanted it to have a long time worn feel. I didn't want it to be too perfect. In fact it's not the first time I've giving a piece of furniture the worn look, but it is my first time sanding it down to perfection before staining it and sealing back into imperfect. And I have no regrets.

So without further ado, here is what the dining table looks like now. It's not much different but I did give it a darker stain and instead of using a glossy varnish I used a satin finish.

I love that the top of the table already had grooves and indentations that were meant to be there and so it made more sense to give this table a more rustic worn lived in look. I love that it will wear in more so as we use it, as a matter of fact, my grandson has already left his mark on it with a sharpie and it's hardly visible. Again this table will be getting a it's well worth use throughout time.

I know that this look isn't for everyone and maybe you expected a more finished modern look or even a lighter look to it considering I did sand it down to its bare roots. But not the look I was going for, complete opposite.

The dining chairs will be getting a new coat of paint because they were never intended to be left this way, in fact I wanted to live with them for a while before deciding on a color for them to go along with our dining/kitchen and now dining table. I'll be sharing more and color revelation soon.
